Kyle
was born in San Diego, California on October 21, 1972. He
received his B.A. in History from the University of California
at Berkeley in 1990 and then proceeded to the University of
San Diego School of Law, earning his J.D. in 1999. He was
admitted to the Bar in California in 1999.
Kyle is a member of the State Bar of California as
well as the American Bar Association.
Kyle says, "When
I was young, my parents told me that because I liked to argue
so much, that I ought to be a lawyer. I was really stubborn,
and while such a trait can frustrate parents, I believe my
stubborn tenacity now serves my clients. I refuse to compromise
on the truth.
Later,
in high school, I published an independent newspaper in which
I continually challenged the status quo. Again my persistence
became the bane of school administrators, but I learned some
important lessons, which enable me to face insurmountable
odds while standing tall. I take seriously my obligations
to serve as both an advocate to my client, and an officer
for justice.
My
journey into law encountered several bumps and curves, but
here I am. I delight in my legal career, for now I can campaign
for consumers and fight for the underdog. I think there is
something uniquely American in working for the underdog. Whether
the opponent is a big corporation or a faceless bureaucracy,
I have no fear, because ultimately, the law is the same for
everyone. I suppose that is what I love most about the law.
Since the middle ages, and on into the 60's, law has been
an equalizing force in society. The egalitarian nature of
law keeps people honest, even without an actual lawsuit. And
for those who transgress our rules of a civil society, nothing
gives me greater pleasure than exposing their corrupt under-belly
for all to see.
Often
when the law seems to be nothing more than a mindless dance
of formalities, I remind myself of all that I have learned.
Most of all, I remind myself that with that one special case,
I can change the world. That case may never come, but I work
hard everyday, as if the case I am on can make a positive
difference."
